Fabulous!

I finally went to see SATC, and I have to say that I LOVED it! I heard a lot of mixed reviews, but I thought things went down just the way they were supposed to. Each of the girls ended up with what she wanted, albeit with some issues along the way (except for Charlotte - her GI tract issues do not count as a real problem). The fashion was amazing, of course, and the wedding dress montage was sigh-worthy. It didn't hurt that Carrie smacked Big around a little. He's been screwing with her head for 10 years now...the man deserves a little beatdown for not recognizing a good thing when he sees it.

The movie definitely made me miss my Penn girls though. Each of us has kind of morphed a bit since our college days. I think I was definitely labeled as the Charlotte of the group, but after yeras of working and experiencing the highs and lows of a 6-year relationship that ended painfully, I'm definitely falling more into the Miranda bucket these days. Kat was the Samantha of the group. She was confident, bold, and what can I say - the guys love her. Although we don't talk as much anymore, I think she's becoming a bit more of a Miranda now as well since she's focused on her career but is still living the good life in NYC. As for Beney, she might be the only one who hasn't changed all that much. Still the most rock-solid friend anyone could have, always seems to have a new love interest, and has a true addiction to shoes. Seriously, an intervention may someday be required. After all these years and even after moving away from each other, we're all still friends and stand by each other no matter what, kind of like Carrie and Co.

Not Taking Chances

The weekend was relatively uneventful with appointments, chores, jogging, and such. I managed to at least call Dad to wish him a happy Father's Day, and I told him my gift would be a Celtics win...of course, they lost (what can I say, I'm a jinx).

Today was fairly productive at work. However, I had to pack up a little early for my flight to Houston. Since it was raining, I gave myself 3 hours. That was a smart move, since it took me just over 2 hours to drive the 25 miles to National. I got there with time to spare, but found out that my flight was delayed by 2 hours because the flight ahead of mine collided with a jetway staircase during take off (didn't realize how windy it was, but apparently it was bad). So now the other flight's boarding, and while I have the option of taking this flight and getting inaround the time that I was expecting to, I'm not going to take any chances. Knowing that plane crashes occur is one thing. It's much more worrisome getting on a plane that has been in a collision just hours ago. Better to wait a couple of hours for another plane than to spend the whole flight wondering if the engine's going to fall off or if the mechanics repaired the wing with duct tape and bubble gum.

EEEWWWWWW!!!

Work was pretty good today - made it in a little before 8, had a good meeting with my counselee, and got a decent amount of work in. I made it home around 1AM. I opened up the garage and drove in. I opened the car door and as I was walking around to get my bags, I heard a little scurrying. I looked behind me and saw something out of the corner of my eye twitching on top of the garbage can. I had come home....to this....

I opened my mouth, and all that came out was one of those silent screams. I hate, hate, HATE bugs, and spiders are the worst. There is no reason for any organism to have more than 4 limbs. So I stood there for at least 5 minutes staring this bugger (no pun intended) down. I finally decided that I had to kill it because had I let it live, I would be looking around and even more unable to sleep for fear of finding this thing crawling on me. My weapon of choice was a rake, mainly because I could stand 3 feet away and poke at it, like a coward. I eventually cornered it and poked out enough of its legs that it couldn't run very fast, and I pray to God that the dark smudge in the corner of my garage is the remnants of my unwanted tenant.
I am going to have nightmares about this for weeks.

Slowly but Surely

That title can describe so many things in my life right now. First, my house. It is slowly starting to feel like a home rather than a very expensive storage facility. The guest room is painted, and as soon as the rest of the bedroom furniture comes in, I can get it set up and move on to the office. Next, my running. I will never go to the Olympics or win a race, but at least I will finish. I watched part of the Prefontaine Classic this weekend and saw the men's two miler. The top finisher crossed the line at 8 min. and change. I would just be on my 4th lap. And finally, work. I started on a new job and am slowly making progress learning what needs to be done and getting to know the team. I am definitely looking forward to the rest of this week though. Thursday I have to be in Bethesda for my new client, but the afternoon will be the team wrap up event that is really just a girls afternoon out followed by dinner and drinks with the rest of the team. Nothing wrong with getting pampered and sipping cocktails before 5PM on a workday. Friday is yet another team event, this time with the new team. Now, I know I probably shouldn't go, but all of the key team members will be going, and frankly, this team is all about personality. I can already tell that politics is going to play a big part in what assignments I get and how much responsibility they give me, so I've got to play the game.

Other than that, I've gotta get ready for the next few weeks of travel, find a gift for Fathers Day, find a dress for Jeff's wedding, finish up all the work that I really ought to be doing instead of blogging, and getting in about 25 miles of running a week. So, I am slowly but surely making progress in all of the things that I need to do. To help give myself a little extra incentive, I will only go to see SATC this weekend if I get all my work done and get at least 10 miles in. Of course, since I told Beney that she had to call me on Sunday so we could dissect the movie as we did the show, I really need to get my butt in gear.
